Diablo 3 Followers (Mercenary) System
Diablo 3 brings back the mercenary from Diablo 2. They are now called Diablo 3 Followers. They work basically like a pet that assists you with your quest. The only catch is, they are only available in single player mode.
They can be leveled up and equipped like in Diablo 2. You can bring them anywhere and fight bosses with them. However, when someone joins your game, they are automatically stored away. This is pretty disappointing for those of us that doesn't like to play in groups but want the challenge of multiplayer games.
The good news is, your Diablo 3 Follower doesn't die. It can become incapacitated, but it will retain all items when they wake up.
Diablo 3 Follower Classes
There are 3 classes you can pick for your follower. Depending on your playing style, they can either increase your damage output or increase your survivability.
- Enchanter - The Enchanter class casts spells and uses magic. They are great for creating decoys to draw enemy fire.
- Templar - The Templar is a good tank to take on a few extra hits. They are great for those playing casters or ranged classes. The Templar can slow enemies down when they are in combat.
- Scoundrel - The Scoundrel is a well balanced ranged follower. They are good for distracting enemies and making them easier targets
